The Andaman Islands sit far out in the Bay of Bengal, closer to Myanmar than to mainland India. They have white-sand beaches, clear water and coral reefs, along with a darker history told at the Cellular Jail in Port Blair.
Our five-day Andaman trip starts in Port Blair with the Cellular Jail and its evening light and sound show. It then takes the ferry to Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) for Radhanagar Beach, which has been named among Asia’s best beaches. The next day is a trip to Elephant Beach for snorkelling and water sports, and the last is a stop at Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) before returning to Port Blair.
It suits couples, families and first-time snorkellers. You need nothing more than an interest in the sea.

No. Indian citizens only need a valid government photo ID. The Andamans are part of India, and no permit is needed for the main tourist islands like Havelock and Neil.
Yes. Snorkelling at Elephant Beach and similar spots is done with a life jacket and a guide in shallow water. Scuba try-dives are also run for non-swimmers, with an instructor holding you throughout.
Mobile networks work in Port Blair and main areas of Havelock and Neil, but data is slow and patchy compared with the mainland. Plan to be less connected and download what you need beforehand.
Ferries connect Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. There are private high-speed catamarans and cheaper government ferries. Seats on the private ferries sell out in season, so they are booked in advance.
