Destination overview
About Meghalaya
Meghalaya, the abode of clouds, is a small hill state in the North East with some of the wettest places on earth. All that rain has left it with deep gorges, tall waterfalls, clear rivers and the living root bridges that Khasi villagers have grown from rubber-tree roots for generations.
Our six-day Meghalaya trip starts in Guwahati and covers both the familiar and the adventurous. There are Shillong, Laitlum canyons and the waterfalls around Jowai and Cherrapunji, plus a day of river canyoneering. The last full day goes down to the root bridges, including the Seven Sisters falls.
It is an active trip with plenty of steps, slippery paths and a fair amount of rain. It is best for travellers who want the outdoors, not a drive-past holiday.

I recently planned a trip with the help of safar wanderlust , and piyush was our cordinator I couldn’t have asked for a better cordinator From the very beginning, he was organized, proactive, and incredibly responsive. He understood exactly what I was looking for and tailored the itinerary to match my preferences perfectly. What stood out the most was his attention to detail—every hotel, activity, and transfer was well-planned and hassle-free. He checked in regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly and was always available if I had questions or needed changes. His suggestions for local experiences and hidden gems added so much value to the trip. Overall, Piyush made the entire travel experience seamless and truly enjoyable. The double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat is reached by about 3,000 to 3,500 steep steps from Tyrna, down and then back up. It takes most people two to three hours each way with stops. Good grip matters more than fitness.

Not all year. The heavy rain is from June to September. October to April is mostly dry and clear, and March to May brings warmer days with some pre-monsoon showers.
