Destination overview

About Chopta Tungnath

Chopta is a stretch of meadow and oak forest in Rudraprayag district, and the trailhead for one of the most rewarding short treks in Uttarakhand. From Chopta, a paved path climbs to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedar. From there it is another steep kilometre to the summit of Chandrashila, which looks out over Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul and Kedarnath.

Our five-day trip starts with an overnight journey from Delhi and stops at Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi meet to become the Ganga. You do the Tungnath–Chandrashila climb on the third day and the short walk to Deoria Tal on the fourth, then head back to Delhi.

It is a good trek for beginners with average fitness. The distances are short, and the reward at the top is a view people usually expect only from much longer treks.

  • I recently planned a trip with the help of safar wanderlust , and piyush was our cordinator I couldn’t have asked for a better cordinator From the very beginning, he was organized, proactive, and incredibly responsive. He understood exactly what I was looking for and tailored the itinerary to match my preferences perfectly. What stood out the most was his attention to detail—every hotel, activity, and transfer was well-planned and hassle-free. He checked in regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly and was always available if I had questions or needed changes. His suggestions for local experiences and hidden gems added so much value to the trip. Overall, Piyush made the entire travel experience seamless and truly enjoyable. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, friendly, and knowledgeable trip coordinator!

The food and accommodation were very good.😊 We especially enjoyed the bonfire🔥 and DJ, and we even celebrated our friend’s birthday, 🎂 which made the trip extra special. • I am delighted that I chose Safar Wanderlust for my first trip to Himachal. I didn't even realize it had passed after these five days because everything had gone so smoothly and nicely. Our trip was unforgettable thanks to our wonderful tour guide, Ram Thakur sir. To us, he was more like a buddy than a tour guide. I had a terrific encounter with him! You have given me the greatest memories of my life and made every penny worth it ✨️.

  • Carry cash

There are no ATMs at Chopta, and mobile signal is weak.
